Lizzo is getting real about the struggles artists face in today’s digital landscape, especially when it comes to promoting new music. The Grammy-winning singer recently shared her concerns during a livestream about her upcoming album, titled ‘B*tch,’ and how evolving social media algorithms are making it harder than ever to connect with fans and drive sales.
The Algorithm’s Impact on Music Promotion
“Ever since the algorithm has been showing us things out of order, baby, there’s no way to successfully promote your album where everyone knows your album is coming,” Lizzo explained. She highlighted how the current system makes it challenging to build anticipation and ensure that fans are aware of new releases, even when artists try to communicate directly.
Lizzo pointed out that even with a dedicated fan base, like her private page with over 280,000 followers, her posts aren’t always reaching everyone. “Even when I post on that page, I’m not hitting their algorithm,” she admitted, expressing frustration with the lack of guaranteed visibility despite her supporters’ loyalty.
Frustration with Digital Platforms
The singer acknowledged that while she’s a successful artist with a loyal following and will ultimately be okay, she’s deeply concerned about the direction of music promotion. She noted a trend where artists with massive social media followings aren’t seeing their album sales match their online popularity.
“Fans are not even aware that their favorite artist is releasing music, and they’re doing everything they need to do to keep up with their favorite artists. They follow them,” Lizzo stated, emphasizing the disconnect. “Something has got to give about this.”
A Call for Awareness
Despite her frustrations, Lizzo remains optimistic about her own career, stating, “I’m gonna be OK. I’m a big girl, I’m a very successful woman. I have a loyal fan base.” However, she hopes her comments will raise awareness about the difficulties artists face in the current digital climate.
She concluded by announcing the release date for her album: “My album B*tch is coming June 5, and if you didn’t know now, you know.” This announcement serves as a direct call to action for fans to be aware and supportive amidst the promotional challenges.
