Steph Curry Funds Full Scholarships at Davidson

Talk about making a slam dunk off the court! NBA superstar Steph Curry is extending his impact beyond basketball with an incredible new initiative. He’s launching a full-ride scholarship program for students from his hometown Bay Area to attend his alma mater, Davidson College.

A Generous Gift to His Roots

This isn’t just any scholarship; it’s a comprehensive, all-expenses-paid opportunity. The Davidson College Curry Scholars Program aims to support students from lower-income communities in the Bay Area, specifically partnering with the Oakland Unified School District. Starting in the fall of 2027, the program plans to select between five and ten students each year.

What does ‘full-ride’ really mean? According to Davidson College, it covers tuition, housing, meals, books, and fees. Plus, students will receive a computer allowance and an all-expenses-paid campus visit during their senior year of high school. It’s a truly life-changing opportunity for deserving young scholars.

More Than Just Basketball

Curry, who played at Davidson from 2006 to 2009 before becoming an NBA legend, emphasized the college’s role in shaping him as a person, not just an athlete. He stated, ‘Davidson is where I learned what kind of person I want to be as much as I learned about basketball.’

His desire is to give high-achieving students from Oakland the chance to experience similar growth. He wants them to have the opportunity ‘to learn, explore and grow as a human being,’ just as he did. This initiative highlights his commitment to education and community impact.

Supporting Future Leaders

Curry’s connection to Davidson runs deep. He famously led the team to the Elite Eight in the 2008 NCAA Tournament and, despite leaving early for the NBA, he later returned to complete his degree in 2022. During his graduation, the college retired his iconic No. 30 jersey and inducted him into its Hall of Fame.

Davidson College President Doug Hicks praised the partnership, noting that it aligns with the college’s goals to recruit more first-generation and underrepresented students. The program will collaborate with organizations like College Track to identify eligible candidates, ensuring the scholarships reach those who will benefit most.
