It seems that for Grammy-winning artist Ne-Yo, embracing a polyamorous lifestyle has come with professional consequences. In a recent candid conversation on the ‘Sorry We’re Cyrus’ podcast with Tish and Brandi Cyrus, the singer opened up about how his relationship choices have affected his career, revealing that some potential deals have been lost due to public perception.
The Price of Polyamory
Ne-Yo, 46, shared that the world isn’t quite ready for his relationship structure. “The world is mad at the fact that I’m in a polyamorous relationship. There are people upset,” he stated. This public disapproval, he explained, has directly impacted his career opportunities. “There’s deals that I missed out on because they’re like, ‘We don’t know if we can get behind the whole polyamorous [thing],’ ” he admitted.
The singer expressed frustration that his personal life choices seem to overshadow his professional achievements and character. “It’s almost like you can be a great person. You can show respect and appreciation [for your fans and colleagues], but the second you do something that they don’t agree with, canceled,” Ne-Yo lamented. “And that just doesn’t make any sense to me.”
A Different Approach to Relationships
Ne-Yo revealed that he currently lives with his three partners – Arielle Hill, Cristina, and Moneii – along with their children. He described their living situation as a family unit, stating, “We are a family. We love each other, and it’s a beautiful thing.”
He explained that this shift in his approach to relationships stems from his divorce from ex-wife Crystal Renay. Moving forward, honesty and transparency have become his top priorities, leading him to embrace a polyamorous dynamic.
Navigating Public Opinion
Ne-Yo’s comments highlight the ongoing societal conversations around non-traditional relationship structures and the challenges individuals face when their personal lives become public fodder. While he finds beauty and love in his current family dynamic, the music industry’s reaction underscores the complexities of navigating fame and personal choices.
