It seems the fallout from the intense Drake and Kendrick Lamar beef is extending beyond the music world and onto the basketball court. Following LeBron James’ Los Angeles Lakers being swept in the second round of the NBA Playoffs by the Oklahoma City Thunder, many of Drake’s loyal fans have taken the opportunity to celebrate the NBA legend’s exit.
A Shift in Allegiance?
During the height of the rap feud, LeBron James appeared to take Kendrick Lamar’s side, even rapping along to Lamar’s diss track “Not Like Us” and attending Lamar’s “Pop Out” event. This perceived allegiance did not go unnoticed by Drake or his dedicated fanbase, often referred to as the OVO Army. Despite LeBron’s past attempts to mend fences with Drake, his fans are showing no forgiveness.
The Lakers’ definitive loss on Monday night, May 11, 2026, provided the perfect opportunity for Drake’s supporters to voice their satisfaction. Social media platforms, particularly X (formerly Twitter), were flooded with reactions from fans who seemed eager to express their schadenfreude.
Fan Reactions and Vengeance
Comments directed at LeBron ranged from cruel to simply petty. Ice emojis were spammed across quote tweets, and many users urged the basketball icon to retire. This outpouring of negativity highlights the strong loyalty Drake commands from his fanbase, who are quick to defend him and target anyone perceived as an opponent.
The timing of these reactions is also notable, as it comes just three days before the release of Drake’s highly anticipated album, ‘ICEMAN,’ scheduled for May 15th. While details about the album remain sparse, the ongoing fan sentiment suggests a heightened level of anticipation and engagement surrounding Drake’s new music.
The Thunder’s Dominance
It’s worth noting that the Lakers faced an exceptionally strong Oklahoma City Thunder team, widely considered one of the best in NBA history. With Luka Doncic injured for Los Angeles, the sweep was almost a foregone conclusion for many analysts. However, for Drake’s fans, the circumstances surrounding the loss seem secondary to the perceived betrayal by LeBron James.
