Stephen Curry, a name synonymous with basketball greatness, is now making waves off the court with a heartwarming initiative. He’s launched a full scholarship program aimed at helping underserved youth from his beloved Bay Area get a shot at attending his own alma mater, Davidson College.
Giving Back to His Roots
Curry, who played for Davidson College from 2006 to 2009 and still holds the title of the program’s all-time leading scorer, knows firsthand the transformative power of a college education. While he pursued his NBA dreams after leaving college early, he later returned to earn his bachelor’s degree in sociology in 2022. Now, he’s ensuring others have the same life-changing opportunities.
The new “Davidson College Curry Scholars Program” is designed to offer personalized college and career coaching. This support is specifically for high-achieving high school students from communities that often face resource challenges. It’s a fantastic way to bridge the gap and provide a clear pathway to higher education.
Partnerships for Success
To make this vision a reality, Curry is collaborating with key partners. The Oakland Unified School District and the non-profit organization College Track are joining forces with Davidson College. This collaborative effort ensures that talented students from the Bay Area receive the guidance and resources they need to thrive.
In a heartfelt video message, Curry shared his passion for the program. “Ayesha and I started our foundation in Oakland 7 years ago with the vision of making sure every kid has access to the opportunity and support they deserve in order to reach their full potential,” he explained. He emphasized his excitement about working with Bay Area students and College Track to help dedicated individuals attend Davidson.
