It seems even hip-hop legends have opinions on J. Cole’s foray into professional basketball! Fat Joe recently shared his take on the rapper’s short-lived stint with the Nanjing Monkey Kings in China, and he didn’t hold back.
A Scoreless Debut and a Quick Exit
During a discussion on the ‘Joe and Jada’ podcast with Jadakiss and Sheryl Swoopes, Fat Joe reacted to J. Cole’s single appearance for the Monkey Kings. The Grammy winner reportedly failed to score any points in his debut game against the Guangzhou Loong Lions on April 11th. Cole went 0-for-5 from the field, recording zero points, one rebound, and one assist in limited minutes.
“By the way, J. Cole quit after one game,” Joe stated on the podcast. “He ‘donuted.’ No points, no nothing. No assists, no points.” He suggested that the level of international competition might have been a surprise to many.
International Competition and Visa Delays
Fat Joe commented, “Everybody who’s the nicest from overseas is over there,” implying that the competition in the Chinese Basketball Association was tougher than anticipated. He humorously added, “They ran him out of China.”
J. Cole himself addressed the situation on his blog, ‘Inevitable.’ He explained that visa delays significantly impacted his plans, stating, “Initially I was scheduled to play in at least 3 games for the Nanjing Monkey Kings. The work visa process took way longer than expected.”
Despite the basketball setback, J. Cole has been finding success elsewhere. His recent album, ‘The Fall Off,’ topped the Billboard charts, selling 280,000 equivalent units. He’s also gearing up for a summer tour, proving his talents continue to shine in the music world.
