Floyd Mayweather Drops $100M Lawsuit Against Business Insider

It looks like Floyd Mayweather Jr. is putting an end to his high-profile legal battle. The undefeated boxing champ has voluntarily decided to drop the massive $100 million defamation lawsuit he filed against Business Insider and one of its reporters, Daniel Geiger.

The $100 Million Real Estate Dispute

This legal saga began back in 2025, stemming from a Business Insider article that questioned the validity of a reported real estate deal involving Mayweather. The article, penned by reporter Daniel Geiger, cast doubt on Mayweather’s claims of purchasing a massive 62-building apartment portfolio in Manhattan, a deal reportedly valued at around $400 million. Geiger’s reporting stated there was “no evidence there has been a sale.”

Mayweather vehemently denied the article’s claims, accusing Geiger of harassment and defamation. He argued that the reporting distorted the facts and that Geiger refused to review crucial documents related to the transaction. Mayweather also suggested the coverage displayed racial bias.

Settlement Details and What It Means

Court filings from May 4th revealed that both parties have agreed to dismiss the case in federal court in New York. Importantly, each side will be responsible for covering their own legal expenses. The agreement also includes the dismissal of all counterclaims associated with the dispute, bringing a close to this chapter.

Business Insider had previously defended its reporting, stating they would “vigorously defend” their work after the lawsuit was initially filed. While the specifics of the agreement remain private, the dismissal signifies an end to the public legal fight over the real estate deal.

Mayweather’s Legal History

This isn’t the first time Floyd Mayweather Jr. has been involved in high-profile legal matters. Known for his undefeated boxing career and significant wealth, his public life has often attracted scrutiny, leading to various legal entanglements over the years.
