Usher’s R&B Tour Offers Internships for Youth

Usher isn’t just hitting the road for his upcoming R&B Tour; he’s bringing the next generation along for the ride! In a move that underscores his long-standing commitment to youth empowerment, Usher is launching an innovative internship program designed to give young adults invaluable hands-on experience in the live entertainment industry.

A Legacy of Support for Youth

This initiative builds on Usher’s dedication to providing opportunities for young people, a mission he’s championed since founding his nonprofit, Usher’s New Look®, five years after his debut album. Co-founded with his mother, Jonnetta Patton, and Shawn H. Wilson, the organization aims to ensure youth have greater access to resources than Usher himself had growing up.

Wilson, who also leads the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Detroit (BGCGD), has been a key partner in these efforts. BGCGD recently received a significant $1 million investment from Usher and Big Sean to support a Detroit incubator focused on preparing youth for careers in diverse fields like fashion, film, music production, and emerging technologies.

The Entertainment Industry Club: Live Touring Edition

The upcoming North American R&B Tour, kicking off June 26 with stops in cities like Denver, Detroit, and Las Vegas, will serve as the backdrop for the ‘Entertainment Industry Club: Live Touring Edition.’ This workforce development initiative is a collaboration between Usher’s New Look®, BGCGD, and the tour itself.

The program is seeking participants aged 18 and older from Detroit and Atlanta. Interns will gain practical experience across various crucial tour departments, including tour production, wardrobe, multimedia, community impact, and operations. Before joining the tour, accepted interns will undergo pre-tour training covering professional standards, safety protocols, and role-specific skills.

Beyond the Internship: Spark Sessions

Adding another layer to this impactful program, interns will also collaborate with local Boys & Girls Clubs to lead career workshops and peer-learning sessions. Furthermore, the initiative extends its reach nationwide through ‘Spark Sessions: Making of the Tour,’ offering youth at various Boys & Girls Clubs a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the complex world of live touring.

Shawn H. Wilson highlighted the program’s goal: ‘Together, we’re changing that by placing young professionals on one of the most historic tours and turning access into real pathways to lasting careers.’ Usher echoed this sentiment, stating, ‘This program is opening doors and putting young professionals in a position to learn, grow, and work inside the entertainment trades. It’s about giving them a real opportunity.’

Aspiring young professionals interested in this unique opportunity can find more information and apply by visiting UshersNewLook.org and navigating to the Entertainment Industry Club section. Early applications are encouraged!
