Atlanta was buzzing with soulful sounds as R&B veterans Floetry, Teedra Moses, and Raheem DeVaughn took the stage for a sold-out show. The concert, part of Floetry’s “Say Yes The Tour,” marked a significant reunion for the beloved duo after more than a decade apart.
Held at the brand-new Arena at Southlake, the event was the venue’s first-ever concert, drawing a massive crowd that lined up around the block before doors even opened. Hosted by comedian Clint Coley with DJ Aktive on the decks, the energy remained high throughout the night, with attendees singing and dancing along to classic hits.
Soulful Sets from Teedra Moses and Raheem DeVaughn
The evening kicked off with Teedra Moses, the Grammy-nominated songwriter, who effortlessly commanded the stage. She glided through hits like “Be Your Girl,” “Take Me,” and “You Better Tell Her,” showcasing the same confident and sexy presence that launched her career. The crowd showed her immense love, clearly appreciating her smooth vocals and undeniable stage presence.
Following Moses was Raheem DeVaughn, affectionately known as “Mr. Make You Feel Your Girl.” He more than lived up to his moniker, captivating the audience with performances of songs like “Guess Who Loves You More” and “You.” By the time he closed with “Customer,” complete with passing out roses and working the stage like a seasoned loverman, the audience was completely under his spell.
A Powerful Message and a Long-Awaited Reunion
Beyond the smooth performances, Raheem DeVaughn also took a moment to address a critical issue. He spoke about the rising rates of HIV and AIDS among Black women, urging concert-goers to get tested and support organizations dedicated to the cause. This added a layer of depth and social consciousness to the evening.
Then came the moment many had waited over a decade for: Floetry. Marsha Ambrosius and Natalie “The Floacist” Stewart took the stage, instantly transporting the audience back in time. Their platinum debut, “Floetic,” helped define a genre blending spoken word with soul music, and hearing those songs performed live again felt like reconnecting with a cherished part of musical history.
Healing, Love, and Enduring Music
From fan favorites like “Ms. Stress” and “Hey You” to the iconic “Butterflies” and the tour’s namesake “Say Yes,” every lyric resonated. The tour is described as an opportunity for audiences to experience Floetry’s music as intended: live, intimate, and emotionally immersive. Marsha Ambrosius shared a heartfelt moment on stage, stating, “What you’re witnessing in real time is healing. Life be lifing but to share this stage with my sister again, what a journey it has been.”
The genuine love and sincerity between the two artists were palpable, creating an atmosphere of shared experience. The night even included a real-time, heartfelt marriage proposal that had the audience cheering enthusiastically.
The Legacy Continues
The Black Promoters Collective continues to be a force in bringing legacy acts to the stage, creating meaningful moments for fans. With upcoming shows featuring powerhouse vocalists like Chaka Khan, Patti LaBelle, Gladys Knight, and Stephanie Mills, their commitment to delivering unforgettable experiences is clear.
The “Say Yes Tour” stop in Atlanta served as a powerful reminder that R&B and neo-soul are not only alive and well but continue to thrive, with these veteran artists still very much at the top of their game.
