It’s a developing story that’s sending shockwaves through the sports world. Former NFL veteran Marcellus Wiley is now facing a significantly expanded legal battle, with multiple women coming forward with serious accusations of sexual assault and grooming. These allegations stretch back decades, all the way to the 1990s, painting a disturbing picture.
A Growing Legal Storm
A lawsuit recently filed in New York in April details claims from four women. Among them is a former ESPN production assistant, adding a new layer to the ongoing legal proceedings. These new claims build upon three earlier lawsuits that accused Wiley of rape during his college years at Columbia University in 1994. Those initial cases were first filed in 2023 and have since been expanded in 2025.
It’s important to note that Marcellus Wiley has publicly denied all allegations. He previously dismissed the initial lawsuit as “BS,” and his legal team rejected the claims of sexual misconduct in a court filing back in 2024. However, the new complaint outlines alleged incidents that span from 1995 to 2009, with alleged assaults occurring across California, New York, and Texas.
Disturbing Details Emerge
Two women have come forward with allegations of assaults in California during the late 1990s. One accuser bravely shared, “He overpowered me and raped me. Afterward, I felt humiliated and shamed…so I never told anyone.” Another woman claims she was raped at a hotel in 1999 while she was a senior at USC. Although she reported the incident to the LAPD, no charges were filed.
Perhaps one of the most disturbing allegations comes from a woman who claims Wiley began “grooming me” when she was just 13 years old. She met him during a middle school visit while he was playing for the Buffalo Bills. She recounts how Wiley would offer gifts and tickets, even calling her “little momma,” and how his sociology degree from Columbia made him seem trustworthy.
This accuser alleges that Wiley later flew her to Dallas when she turned 18 and assaulted her. “Marcellus Wiley raped me on my 18th birthday, after grooming me from the age of 13,” she stated, adding a poignant remark about how proper action by Columbia University might have prevented her experience.
Allegations Against Columbia University
The lawsuit also casts a critical eye on Columbia University itself, accusing the institution of enabling Wiley. Attorney Laura Gentile alleges that the school was aware of prior complaints but only placed him on academic probation. The suit claims that by “promoting, protecting, and elevating a sexual predator… Columbia University created a false image of Wiley… thereby enabling Wiley’s vicious propensity to rape/assault women.”
Adding to the complexity, reports indicate that one of the original accusers is now pushing to transform the case into a class-action lawsuit against both Wiley and Columbia University. A hearing on this significant request is scheduled for May 12th.
