Well, that didn’t last long. M.I.A., who was serving as the opening act on Kid Cudi’s Rebel Ragers Tour, has officially been removed from the lineup. The decision comes after M.I.A. delivered a political rant during a show in Dallas, which was met with boos from the audience and ultimately led to Kid Cudi taking decisive action.
The Dallas Rant That Crossed a Line
During the May 2nd show at the Dos Equis Pavilion, M.I.A. reportedly spoke about being “canceled” for her views and identified herself as a “brown Republican voter.” The situation took a turn when she suggested some audience members might be undocumented immigrants, stating, “I can’t do ‘Illegal,’ though some of you could be in the audience.” This controversial statement quickly went viral, leaving many fans questioning Kid Cudi’s response.
Kid Cudi, known for creating a safe and inclusive environment for his fans, was reportedly flooded with messages from concertgoers upset by M.I.A.’s remarks. It seems the artist’s political commentary crossed a boundary that Cudi felt compelled to address.
Kid Cudi’s Official Statement
Kid Cudi took to Instagram to announce the decision, making it clear that M.I.A. is no longer part of the tour. He revealed that his management had issued a warning to M.I.A.’s team before the tour began, requesting that they avoid offensive content. “I told my management to send a notice to her team before we started tour that I didn’t want anything offensive at my shows, cuz I already knew what time it was, and I was assured things were understood,” Cudi stated.
He continued, “After the last couple shows, I’ve been flooded with messages from fans that were upset by her rants. This, to me, is very disappointing, and I wont have someone on my tour making offensive remarks that upsets my fanbase.” Cudi concluded his message with a simple “Thank you for understanding. Rager.”
