Boosie Advocates for Principal Suspended Over School Visit

Rapper Boosie Badazz is stepping in to support a principal who found himself in hot water after inviting the artist to speak with students. The Lafayette School District recently placed Northside High School Principal James Rollins on administrative leave, reportedly for allowing Boosie onto campus without the necessary board approval.

An Unapproved Visit and Its Consequences

The incident occurred when Boosie, born Torrence Hatch, was in Lafayette to promote his upcoming Boosie Bash concert. He had received a special proclamation from St. Landry Parish President Jessie Bellard, naming May 10th “Boosie Day.” Wanting to share a positive message, Boosie visited Northside High School.

While Boosie emphasizes that he didn’t perform any music and focused on delivering uplifting words about life and purpose, his presence on campus without prior district approval from Superintendent Francis Touchet Jr. violated school policy. This led to Principal Rollins’ suspension.

Boosie’s Plea for a Second Chance

Boosie has publicly expressed his regret over the situation and is now urging the school board to reconsider their decision. He stated that his intention was genuine and that he simply wanted to offer guidance to the students, sharing his own life experiences to help them navigate their paths.

“I feel bad about it, man, because it was a genuine situation,” Boosie shared in an interview. “All I did was said a few words to uplift the kids about life, about purpose… I went in there and gave these kids what I have been through, what not to do… So, I would tell the school board to give this man another chance.”

Principal Rollins’ Experience and the Community’s Reaction

Principal James Rollins has a long-standing career in education, with over 25 years of experience as a teacher, assistant principal, and school leader in Lafayette Parish. He was appointed to lead Northside High School in June 2024. Boosie also took to Instagram to thank the Lafayette community for their hospitality and reiterated his plea for Rollins’ reinstatement, highlighting the principal’s apparent care for his students.

The situation highlights the complex balance between school policies, community engagement, and the desire to inspire students. While the school district prioritizes safety and adherence to protocol, Boosie’s intervention brings attention to the potential impact of positive role models, even those with a controversial public image.
