While Lil Durk faces serious legal challenges, including a murder-for-hire case, his business ventures are moving forward. His record label, Only The Family (OTF), has officially appointed Cedrick “SB” Earsery as its new CEO, signaling a commitment to continued growth and operations.
A Foundation Built on Family
Earsery, who has been a close associate of Lil Durk since the label’s inception, previously served as the COO of OTF and as Durk’s manager. In a statement, Earsery emphasized the label’s core values, stating, “Only The Family has always been rooted in exactly that, family.” He outlined his mission to bring the collective back to its original purpose: creating hope and real opportunities for young people, regardless of their background.
He stressed that the name “Only The Family” is more than just branding; it’s the blueprint for their operations. Earsery aims to re-establish OTF as a purposeful space where young individuals can find inspiration and the necessary infrastructure to pursue their dreams.
Expanding the OTF Empire
This leadership change isn’t just a temporary measure during Lil Durk’s legal proceedings. Earsery is reportedly planning significant expansions for OTF, whether Durk is present or not. The label is looking to venture into artist management, film and TV production, sports partnerships, and philanthropy, among other areas.
Lil Durk founded OTF on Chicago’s South Side back in 2010, and with Earsery’s crucial assistance, it has grown substantially. Earsery’s extensive experience includes inking Durk’s Def Jam deal in 2012, serving as VP of A&R at Timbaland’s Mosley Music Group, arranging OTF’s Sony distribution deal, leading the rollout of Durk’s ‘Deep Thoughts,’ and founding NuKool Multimedia Creative Collective.
Looking Ahead
Lil Durk has been incarcerated since October 2024, with his trial reportedly scheduled to begin on August 25 of this year. As the legal process unfolds, the future direction of OTF now rests with Cedrick “SB” Earsery’s leadership. It will be interesting to see how the label evolves under his guidance and expands its reach into new industries.
