All-Black Women Dental Practice Embraces Tech

In Houston, a groundbreaking dental practice is changing the game. Elite Dental Wellness, founded by Dr. Ashandra Batiste, is not only led by an all-Black team of women dentists but is also redefining patient care through a high-tech, patient-centric approach. Their mission? To bridge the gaps in access to quality dental services.

A Foundation of Excellence

Dr. Batiste credits her training at Howard University College of Dentistry for instilling a culture of excellence and collective ownership, which heavily influenced her vision for Elite Dental Wellness. “There’s still this disparity in healthcare where people are like, ‘I didn’t even know that you guys existed’ … That is insane to me that in the year 2026, people are still like, ‘Wow, there’s Black female dentists,’” Batiste shared with Afro Tech, highlighting the persistent need for representation.

The practice offers a full spectrum of dental services, including preventive, restorative, cosmetic, and emergency dentistry. What sets them apart is their commitment to serving patients regardless of insurance status, making quality care more accessible. This dedication is amplified by their embrace of cutting-edge technology.

Technology Enhancing Patient Care

Elite Dental Wellness utilizes advanced tools like the Nomad X-ray system, which provides efficient imaging with lower radiation exposure. For gum therapy, they employ the PerioLase MVP-7, a minimally invasive option that can often replace traditional surgery. Dr. Tamaara Willis, the practice’s periodontist, champions this approach, questioning the empathy of providers who opt for more painful, less advanced methods when superior alternatives exist.

Looking ahead, the team is integrating AI-powered scanners that offer instant previews for treatments like Invisalign, crowns, and veneers, further enhancing the patient experience and treatment planning. This commitment to innovation ensures patients receive the most effective and comfortable care possible.

Community Engagement and Future Growth

Beyond clinical care, Elite Dental Wellness actively engages with the community. They host events like “Glam & Glow,” which features women-owned businesses offering services such as lash extensions, brow grooming, makeup, and nutrition consulting. This event, scheduled for May 9th at their Houston office, underscores their commitment to supporting other female entrepreneurs and promoting holistic wellness.

The practice, led by Dr. Batiste, Dr. Lindsey Sinclair Miller, Dr. Sarah Glenn, and Dr. Tamaara Willis, stands as a powerful example of how diversity, technological advancement, and a patient-first philosophy can create a thriving, impactful healthcare business.
