In a world that often feels busy and disconnected, finding a sense of belonging can be a challenge. Enter MoveLink Baltimore, a new community wellness group dedicated to fostering connection through the simple act of movement. Officially launched on April 11th, their mission is clear: to bring people together through walking, jogging, running, and shared experiences that nurture both physical and social well-being.
Movement as a Bridge to Connection
MoveLink Baltimore isn’t just for elite athletes or those with rigid fitness goals. It’s designed for anyone who wants to show up, move at their own pace, and connect with others in a welcoming, positive environment. The core idea is that movement can serve as a powerful bridge – a casual walk can spark a meaningful conversation, a jog can build accountability, and a weekend meetup can become a place where individuals feel seen, encouraged, and truly welcomed.
The group meets every second and fourth weekend, on both Saturdays and Sundays at 10:00 AM, at the scenic Lake Montebello in Baltimore, Maryland. Participants are encouraged to walk, jog, or run according to their comfort level, making the group accessible to people of all fitness levels, ages, and backgrounds.
Founded on Wellness, Culture, and Connection
MoveLink Baltimore was brought to life by a founding team – Mikkyo, Kalah, Shaina, and Charissa – who share a deep passion for wellness, culture, and genuine connection. Their diverse backgrounds, including education, engineering (with an HBCU alumnae perspective), legacy curation, and health enthusiasm, contribute to a platform that feels more like a community than just a fitness club.
The founders recognized a need for a consistent space where people could simultaneously build healthy habits and meaningful relationships. Mikkyo shared that the inspiration came from a personal desire to stay active while also supporting others. “We started MoveLink because we genuinely enjoy being active and wanted to create something where we could not only move together, but also hold each other accountable,” she explained. “Sometimes you just need a walk, jog, or run. But having that encouragement, that community, or even just someone to hit the gym with makes all the difference.”
More Than Just Fitness: Building a Culture
While movement is the starting point, MoveLink Baltimore’s vision extends far beyond physical fitness. The founders aim to create a space for connection that transcends active experiences, with plans for future social events and wellness-centered gatherings. “It’s really about building community in every way,” Mikkyo emphasized.
This community-first approach aligns with a broader conversation about wellness within Black communities and HBCU culture, where mental health, rest, friendship, and belonging are just as crucial as physical activity. MoveLink Baltimore offers a low-pressure environment where the focus is on showing up, moving together, and staying in motion, without judgment or the need to be the fastest.
Lake Montebello: A Consistent Hub for Connection
The choice of Lake Montebello as the meeting point provides a beautiful and relaxed setting for participants. The consistent schedule – meeting every second and fourth weekend at 10:00 AM – helps build momentum and encourages repeated presence, which is vital for community growth. MoveLink Baltimore also leverages its digital presence, particularly on Instagram, to keep the community connected between meetups and share updates.
