It’s a heartbreaking update for the family of Ashlee Jenae. After traveling to Zanzibar, Tanzania, for her 31st birthday, her body has finally been returned to her loved ones in New Jersey. However, the return has been met with distress, as her family reports that her engagement ring and other personal belongings were missing upon arrival.
A Trip That Turned Tragic
Ashlee Jenae, also known as Ashly Robinson, was on a trip with her fiancé, Joe McCann, the founder and CEO of Asymmetric Financial. Just days before her death, McCann had proposed to Jenae. Tragically, by April 9th, Jenae was found unresponsive in her hotel room at the Zuri Zanzibar.
McCann told authorities he found her unconscious, and she was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Initial medical reports from the hospital suggested suicide, noting an unidentified mark around her neck and stating McCann found her ‘h*nged herself on the door.’ A second report cited cerebral hypoxia by strangulation and suffocation as the immediate cause of death.
Family Demands Answers Amid Conflicting Reports
Despite the official reports pointing to suicide, Ashlee’s parents, Yolanda Denise Endres and Harry Robinson, firmly believe their daughter would never harm herself. They describe her as happy and full of life, making the circumstances of her death even more perplexing.
Adding to their distress, the family claims McCann became unreachable after initially informing them of an incident. Ashlee had reportedly called home earlier in the trip, excited about her engagement, but then later shared that she and McCann had argued, leading to them being separated into different villas by hotel staff. The next communication was the devastating news of her death.
She’s never done anything that would ever ever lead me to believe that she would do something to harm herself like that. She was happy. — Yolanda Denise Endres (Ashlee Jenae’s Mother)
The Body Returns, But Questions Remain
As of April 24th, Ashlee Jenae’s body was returned to New Jersey. Her father, Harry Robinson, confirmed the arrival but also highlighted the absence of her engagement ring and personal belongings. While investigators may be holding these items as part of the active case, the family is still seeking clarity.
The family has taken a significant step by conducting an independent autopsy, though the results are still pending. They are also working to obtain hotel surveillance footage and are even considering traveling to Zanzibar to speak directly with officials. Meanwhile, Joe McCann’s passport was reportedly confiscated, and he was held for questioning by officials in April.
Seeking Closure and Justice
The family has been tirelessly fighting for answers since Ashlee’s death and has launched a fundraiser to help with burial costs. The journey for truth and closure continues as they await the independent autopsy results and hope for more transparency from all parties involved.
