Paul Pierce Admits Paternity: What It Means for Custody

Well, it looks like a major development has occurred in the paternity case involving former NBA superstar Paul Pierce! After months of legal back-and-forth, Pierce has reportedly acknowledged he is the father of a two-month-old baby boy named King Rafael Santiago Pierce. This admission marks a significant turning point in the ongoing legal proceedings.

Seeking Joint Custody After Admission

Following his reported admission of paternity, Pierce is now requesting joint legal and physical custody of his infant son. This comes after a lawsuit was initially filed in January by Princess Santiago, an event planner from Los Angeles. Santiago had asked the court to order genetic testing to confirm Pierce’s paternity for her then-unborn child.

The case initially grabbed headlines when Santiago sought a substantial amount: nearly $30,000 per month in child support. On top of that, she requested sole legal and physical custody and asked Pierce to cover half of her pregnancy, birth, and post-birth expenses, totaling $18,846, plus $100,000 in legal fees.

Mother Questions Timing of Custody Request

Princess Santiago has expressed surprise and questioned the timing of Pierce’s joint custody request, especially given her experience during the pregnancy. “For nine months, I went through this pregnancy alone — no financial support, no in-person presence from Paul,” Santiago stated to TMZ. She added, “Now that the DNA test confirms he’s the father, he’s seeking joint custody?”

Santiago also revealed that she made several attempts to settle the matter privately before resorting to legal action. She emphasized that her decision to go to court was driven by a desire for “accountability and doing what’s right for my child.”

Financial Background and Earnings

The lawsuit filings also highlighted Pierce’s significant financial background to support the child support requests. It’s alleged that he earned between $195 million and $203 million in total NBA salary throughout his career. Furthermore, the filings referenced a past statement from Pierce where he indicated he had made enough from endorsements to not need his NBA salary.

As of now, no final decisions have been made by the court regarding custody or child support. This story is still developing, and we’ll be keeping an eye on the latest updates.
