Talk about a plot twist! Kimora Lee Simmons, the iconic fashion mogul and former model, is navigating a significant personal change. Not only is she reverting her name back to Kimora Lee, dropping the Simmons, but she’s also officially ending her marriage to Tim Leissner. And the kicker? He filed for divorce from behind bars!
A Divorce Filing From Prison
Tim Leissner, once a managing director at Goldman Sachs, is currently serving time for his role in a massive Malaysian embezzlement scheme. Despite being incarcerated, he’s initiated divorce proceedings from Kimora Lee, whom he married back in 2014. The divorce papers were signed on February 4th, just days before he surrendered to authorities, though the official date of separation is listed as ‘TBD’.
While the filing cites ‘irreconcilable differences,’ Leissner isn’t just looking to end the marriage. He’s also requesting joint physical and legal custody of their 11-year-old son, Wolfe. Beyond that, he’s seeking spousal support from the Baby Phat founder and wants his attorney fees covered. Interestingly, he also wants to prevent Kimora Lee from receiving alimony from him.
Dividing Assets and Past Relationships
When it comes to dividing their assets, Leissner wants to keep everything he acquired before the marriage, as well as any property obtained through gifts or inheritance. He’s also asking to retain any associated profits and personal belongings. This comes after Leissner was sentenced in May 2025, having received several adjournments before his February surrender, amidst a scandal involving an estimated $4.5 billion stolen from a state investment fund.
Kimora Lee herself hinted at her single status in a December 2025 interview with PEOPLE, stating she wasn’t using dating apps and emphasizing the importance of independence. This isn’t her first marriage; she was previously married to Russell Simmons from 1998 to 2009, with whom she shares adult daughters Ming Lee and Aoki Lee. She also has a son, Kenzo, with actor Djimon Hounsou, and an adopted son, Gary.
Co-Parenting Realities
Recently, Kimora Lee mentioned that she’s the primary caregiver for all her children, suggesting that co-parenting isn’t always straightforward. She described the situation as ‘difficult’ and humorously noted that ‘Guys are weird,’ implying a lack of consistent involvement from the fathers.
