Tory Lanez Sues Prison for $100M After Attack

Rapper Tory Lanez, legally known as Daystar Peterson, is making headlines again, but this time it’s for a massive lawsuit. After being convicted in the shooting case involving Megan Thee Stallion and sentenced to 10 years, Lanez has now filed an explosive $100 million lawsuit against the California Department of Corrections.

A Violent Prison Encounter

The lawsuit stems from a brutal attack that occurred in May 2025 at the California Correctional Institute in Tehachapi. According to the legal filing, Lanez was allegedly stabbed a staggering 16 times by another inmate. The attack left him with severe injuries, including wounds to his back, torso, and head, and resulted in a collapsed lung.

Following the incident, Lanez required hospitalization. The lawsuit claims that prison officials were aware of the danger, alleging they knowingly housed him with inmate Santino Casio, who was serving a life sentence for second-degree murder. The filing emphasizes that placing Casio with Peterson was a known or should-have-been-known danger.

Allegations of Negligence and Vulnerability

Beyond the alleged failure to provide a safe environment, the lawsuit also points fingers at the correctional officers. It claims that guards responded too slowly during the attack and failed to use necessary measures, like flash grenades, to stop it. Lanez’s celebrity status is also cited as a factor that made him particularly vulnerable.

Adding insult to injury, the lawsuit states that Lanez never recovered personal belongings after being transferred to a new facility, including notebooks filled with lyrics to unreleased music. He was later moved to California Men’s Colony in San Luis Obispo County.

Sentence Upheld Despite Attack

Interestingly, despite this violent incident, a three-judge panel denied Lanez’s appeal in November 2025, upholding his original sentence. Meanwhile, Santino Casio, the inmate accused of carrying out the stabbing, has not been charged in connection with the event.
