A plea of not guilty has been entered by Amuri Greene, 21, in connection with the devastating shooting death of a 7-month-old baby girl in Brooklyn. The incident, which also left the infant’s 2-year-old brother wounded, has sent shockwaves through the community.
The Tragic Incident
According to the New York Daily News, prosecutors allege that Greene, riding on a moped with another suspect, Matthew Rodriguez, 18, fired shots at children in a stroller. The intended target, prosecutors claim, was the father of the children. The infant, identified as Amuri Greene, was struck in the head and tragically died from her injuries.
The shooting took place on April 1 in the East Williamsburg section of Brooklyn. Following the incident, both suspects fled the scene. Greene reportedly gave paramedics a fake name while being transported to the hospital, and his leg was broken when the moped crashed.
Suspects Apprehended and Charged
Amuri Greene is currently being held without bail and is scheduled for his next court appearance on June 10. Matthew Rodriguez, who was reportedly driving the moped, fled the city but was later apprehended in Monroe County, Pennsylvania. He appeared in court on April 14 after waiving extradition.
Rodriguez faces charges including criminal possession of a weapon, assault, hindering prosecution, and tampering with a witness. As he was being taken to the police station, Rodriguez told reporters, “I didn’t do it. I didn’t know that was going to happen. I promise I didn’t know he was going to pull the trigger.”
Justice for the Family
Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez has vowed to hold the perpetrators accountable. “I promised that the men who stole their child’s life would be held accountable and justice will prevail,” Gonzalez stated. “Both defendants have now been arraigned. We will continue to fight for this family, and we will continue to fight to make sure that no family ever has to go through what this family went through.”
This case highlights the devastating impact of gun violence on innocent lives and communities. The legal process will continue as the family seeks justice for their profound loss.
