NYPD Officers Punish Man Mistaken for Drug Dealer

A shocking incident has come to light in Brooklyn, where a man was allegedly beaten by NYPD officers who mistook him for a drug dealer. Timothy Brown is speaking out after camera footage captured him being roughly arrested on April 14, revealing a disturbing case of mistaken identity and excessive force.

Mistaken Identity at a Liquor Store

The arrest took place at the BK Wine Depot in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood. According to reports, NYPD officers were allegedly conducting a drug investigation based on a tip about narcotics sales in the area. They claimed Brown matched the description of a suspect they were looking for.

However, Brown insists he was simply a customer entering the store to make a purchase. In the released footage, he can be heard calmly but firmly stating his name and denying any possession of illegal substances. “They slammed me up against the glass, you know, repeatedly hitting me in the temple, in my head, you know? You see my eye’s black,” Brown told CBS News, describing the violent encounter.

Officers Stripped of Duty

The video evidence shows Brown being dragged across the floor amidst broken glass, a detail he also pointed out. The officers involved, who reportedly did not identify themselves as NYPD at the time, have since been stripped of their guns and badges. This action was taken after the disturbing videos began circulating.

New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch addressed the incident on X, stating, “These videos are deeply disturbing, and the matter is under active investigation by the NYPD’s Internal Affairs Bureau. The officers in question are modified. Their guns and shields have been removed.”

Official Condemnation and Investigation

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani also spoke out against the officers’ actions, calling the violence “extremely disturbing and unacceptable.” He assured the public that a full investigation is underway, emphasizing that officers should never treat individuals in such a manner. The incident raises serious questions about profiling and the use of force within the NYPD.
