Caitlyn Jenner Regrets ‘Woman of the Year’ Award

Caitlyn Jenner is looking back at her past with a critical eye, specifically her decision to accept Glamour’s ‘Woman of the Year’ award back in 2015. Appearing on ‘Tomi Lahren Is Fearless,’ Jenner expressed that she now views the honor as a mistake, labeling herself a ‘hypocrite’ given her current stance on transgender women in sports.

A Conflict of Views

Jenner, 75, explained her reasoning, stating her focus is on protecting women, not necessarily the broader LGBTQ+ community. ‘It’s not right,’ she asserted, referring to transgender women competing in women’s sports. ‘So I fought this battle from the Lia Thomas days until today.’

She then drew a direct parallel to her acceptance of the award: ‘And I thought, ‘What a hypocrite I am.’ Here I am fighting this battle: biological men out of women’s sports. But back when I came out, what did I accept? Glamour’s Woman of the Year award.’

The ‘XY’ Reality

Jenner elaborated on her perspective, stating, ‘I’m still XY. Biologically, I’m female. But genetically, I’m still XY. There’s nothing I can do about that.’ She added that she is comfortable with this biological reality and is simply ‘glad I can wake up in the morning and just be myself.’

This perspective starkly contrasts with her 2015 acceptance speech, where she quoted Simone de Beauvoir and declared, ‘You are not born woman. You become one.’ The shift in her public statements highlights a significant evolution in her views over the years.

Returning the Award

In a notable move, Jenner announced in 2024 that she had returned the Glamour award. She posted on X, ‘I can no longer in good faith hold onto this award,’ signaling her deep-seated conflict with the honor.

Jenner also commented on the societal changes since her public transition in 2015, suggesting that the country has evolved significantly. Her reflections offer a complex look at identity, public perception, and the evolving discourse around gender and sports.
