It looks like there might be a shift towards resolution in the high-profile divorce between former NBA star Dwight Howard and his wife, Amy Luciani (whose legal name is Amber Howard). Howard has recently decided to withdraw a restraining order he had filed against Luciani, suggesting a move towards a more amicable separation.
A Step Towards De-escalation
According to Howard’s attorney, Gillian B. Fierer, dropping the protective order is an initial step to ease tensions. Fierer noted that such legal maneuvers are quite common in divorce proceedings and can actually help move the divorce process along more smoothly. Howard’s team has also requested privacy for both parties as they navigate this sensitive period.
Allegations and Denials
The restraining order, initially approved on April 7th, had placed significant restrictions on Luciani. It prohibited her from going near Howard’s Georgia residence, contacting his family, or approaching his children’s school. Howard’s filing alleged that Amber came to his home on April 5th and made threats, even claiming she had previously threatened him with a deadly weapon.
However, Amber Howard has strongly denied these allegations. In a statement, she suggested the protective order was a retaliatory move by Dwight to cover up his own alleged wrongdoings. She specifically mentioned that Dwight asked her to lie to the police regarding his daughter being removed by CPS, and that she refused, leading to this alleged retaliation.
The Divorce Proceedings Continue
This isn’t the first time the couple has filed for divorce; this marks the second filing. Their separation has been marked by a series of public disputes and legal challenges, making this latest development a significant one. While the allegations are serious, the withdrawal of the restraining order could indicate a willingness from both sides to find a less contentious path forward.
