DJ Akademiks on Young Thug’s New Sound

Is Young Thug’s signature sound evolving, or has it taken a detour? DJ Akademiks recently shared his candid thoughts on the rapper’s newly previewed music, which debuted during his Coachella performance. According to Akademiks, the latest track doesn’t quite hit the mark fans have come to expect from the Atlanta star.

Akademiks’ Take on Young Thug’s New Track

During a livestream, DJ Akademiks expressed his surprise, stating that the new song felt more like a “troll song” than the innovative music we’ve heard from Young Thug in the past. He reminisced about Thug’s 2015 era, calling it a period where the rapper was consistently dropping hits. “This is almost feel like a troll song,” Akademiks remarked, adding, “I don’t know, this song sound a–. I’m gonna keep it a bean. This sounds bad.”

The popular commentator believes that Young Thug’s music has lost some of the unique creativity and unpredictability that propelled him to stardom. He touched on the broader trend of artists maturing into their 30s, suggesting that “dumb music just doesn’t resonate the same” and questioning the lack of perceived growth.

Remembering Thug’s Eclectic Style

Akademiks recalled how Young Thug once stood out precisely because of his unconventional melodies, quirky lyrics, and unexpected artistic choices. “Thug always made eclectic cool music,” he explained. “We used to think Thug was a weirdo because his mind was different.”

Despite his critique of the new material, DJ Akademiks was quick to reaffirm his respect for Young Thug’s legacy. He proudly placed the rapper on his “Mount Rushmore of Atlanta,” acknowledging him as one of the most creative artists to emerge from the city.

This discussion highlights the ongoing conversation about artistic evolution in hip-hop. As artists grow and change, their fanbases often grapple with whether the new direction aligns with what they initially loved. Young Thug’s journey is certainly one to watch.
