J. Cole Addresses CBA Performance Backlash

After facing a wave of online ridicule for his recent performance in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA), rapper J. Cole has decided to speak out. The artist, who signed with the Nanjing Monkey Kings, shared his thoughts on his blog, ‘The Algorithm,’ expressing gratitude for the opportunity despite the less-than-stellar debut.

A Game to Forget, A Dream Fulfilled

J. Cole’s debut on April 11th was met with widespread commentary, particularly from critics like DJ Akademiks. Playing just eight minutes off the bench, Cole went 0-5 from the field, managing only one rebound and one assist, along with a personal foul. The internet, as it often does, had a field day with the performance, dissecting his every move.

Despite the criticism, Cole expressed immense gratitude for the chance to play in a professional league. He was particularly touched by the support from his fans in China, admitting he didn’t realize he had such a large following there. He also shared positive observations about the country’s cleanliness and peacefulness.

Reflections on the Experience

Cole revealed that his time playing was cut short due to a longer-than-expected work visa process, limiting him to just one game instead of the initially planned three. Nevertheless, he cherishes the experience of playing in a top-tier league. ‘I got to play 8 minutes in one of the top leagues in the world, got a few good looks but wasn’t able to hit one,’ he wrote. ‘A couple more games and maybe those shots would have started to fall! Either way I’m fulfilled and grateful!’

He humorously added, ‘Sh*t, I feel like I dropped 20!!! [laughing emoji] And my knees felt like I played 40 minutes! [weary face emoji].’ Cole concluded by expressing a desire to return to play for the Monkey Kings next year if he can maintain his fitness, joking about his wild ambition.
