Palace x Nike Air Max 95 NYC Release Descends into Chaos

What was supposed to be a celebrated in-store launch turned into a scene of chaos for the Palace x Nike Air Max 95 release in New York City. The highly anticipated collaboration, scheduled for April 10th, 2026, quickly spiraled out of control, forcing a cancellation and leading to arrests.

Crowds Overwhelm SoHo Location

Excitement for the Palace Skateboards x Nike Air Max 95 was immense, with crowds flooding the SoHo block ahead of the planned wristband distribution. Unfortunately, the situation quickly became unmanageable, prompting the NYPD to intervene. Reports indicate several individuals were arrested as the scene devolved into disorder.

Palace Skateboards responded swiftly to the escalating situation. The brand took to their Instagram story to announce an urgent update: the Palace NYC store would no longer be selling the Air Max 95 or any accompanying apparel from the collection. They directed customers to shop online instead at 11 AM EST and apologized for the inconvenience.

Another Chance for Sneakerheads

While the in-store experience was a bust, fans who missed out on the initial drop will have another opportunity. A second release is scheduled for April 16th, 2026, exclusively via the Nike SNKRS app. This online release offers a chance for enthusiasts to still cop the coveted collaboration.

The shoe itself boasts a predominantly silver and black colorway, accented with baby blue details that tie into the apparel collection. A metallic silver gradient on the upper fades into black towards the heel, while baby blue hits appear on the Air Max unit and outsole grid. Palace branding is subtly featured on the heel tab.

Design Inspiration and Retail Price

Originally designed in 1995 and inspired by the human spine and muscle tissue, the Air Max 95’s layered aesthetic is preserved in Palace’s take, given a premium, futuristic finish. The retail price for the Palace x Nike Air Max 95 is set at $200. The chaos surrounding the release, while unfortunate, only adds to the mystique of this highly anticipated collaboration.

The events in SoHo serve as a stark reminder of how quickly in-person sneaker releases can turn chaotic. For a collaboration as clean as this one, it’s a shame the moment couldn’t be celebrated without incident.
