Dunking Goes Pro: The Birth of DUNKMAN
Slated to kick off this summer, the DUNKMAN league is a collaboration between Shaq, Authentic Brands Group (Authentic), and TNT Sports, with support from Eli Lilly and Company. The league draws inspiration from the success of a recent television series of the same name, aiming to elevate dunk competitions from one-off events into a legitimate professional sport.
Shaq himself will serve as the league’s commissioner. He expressed his vision, stating, “These athletes are innovators, and DUNKMAN is going to give them a global stage, real stakes, and a chance to build careers doing what they love.” He added, “We are transforming dunking from a one-night contest to the fastest growing professional sport off two feet.”
Global Stage, Big Stakes
The DUNKMAN league will feature 24 of the world’s best dunkers competing in a new league format. The competition will include four group-stage events, culminating in the DUNKMAN World Championship. The ultimate winner will not only claim the title of DUNKMAN World Champion but also take home a substantial $500,000 grand prize.
