Don Lemon Considers Presidential Run

Could a former news anchor be heading to the Oval Office? Don Lemon recently dropped a bombshell, revealing that he’s not only considered running for president but believes he could do a better job than the current political landscape allows. It’s a bold statement from the former CNN anchor, and he’s not shying away from the idea.

Considering a Run for the White House

During a recent appearance on the ‘Pod Save America’ podcast, guest host Alex Wagner posed the question directly to Lemon: would he ever consider running for office? Lemon’s response was candid. “I hear that all the time,” he admitted, acknowledging the frequent suggestion from others.

While the idea has crossed his mind, Lemon also voiced his reservations about the intense scrutiny that comes with political campaigns. “Why would I invite even more criticism?” he questioned. “Why would I want to ruin my life with people digging into everything about me?” These are valid concerns for anyone considering a public political career.

A Different Standard for Minorities

Despite his hesitations, Lemon confirmed he has seriously contemplated the possibility. “Do I ever think about it? Yes,” he stated. He believes a run could happen “if the opportunity presented itself.” Lemon also touched upon the perceived double standards in politics, arguing that Black candidates and women often face harsher judgment than white men.

“The rules are different for me,” he explained. “White men get away with way more than women or Black people or any minority.” This perspective highlights a critical issue of fairness and equity in the political arena.

Confidence in Leadership

Lemon anticipates that many will dismiss the idea of him running for president. However, he expressed strong confidence in his abilities. “I think I could be president of the United States,” he declared. “I could definitely run this country better than Donald Trump.”

He also noted that if he were to pursue a political career, he would likely align with the Democratic Party. Lemon isn’t the only media figure to have mused about entering politics; Stephen A. Smith has also explored the idea, though he has since changed his mind.
