Hold onto your hats, WNBA fans! In a move that’s sent shockwaves through the league, the Chicago Sky have traded superstar Angel Reese to the Atlanta Dream. This isn’t just any trade; it’s a blockbuster deal that reshapes both franchises and brings one of the league’s most exciting young talents to a new home.
What Went Down in the Deal?
The Chicago Sky sent the two-time WNBA All-Star to Atlanta in exchange for some serious future assets: first-round picks in 2027 and 2028, plus a 2028 second-round pick swap. This trade marks the end of a relatively short but incredibly impactful chapter for Reese in Chicago, where she was drafted No. 7 overall in 2024.
From the moment she stepped onto the court, Reese made her presence known. She led the league in rebounds for two consecutive years and consistently delivered double-doubles, proving herself as a dominant force in scoring and playmaking. Even when the Sky faced team inconsistencies and missed the playoffs, her impact was undeniable.
Why the Surprise Move?
Whispers of tension between Reese and the Chicago organization had been growing, particularly concerning roster decisions and the team’s overall direction. While Reese had previously addressed these comments, this trade clearly signals a strategic reset for the Sky as they look toward building for the future.
For the Atlanta Dream, this is a massive acquisition. They’re bringing in a player who has already established herself as a powerhouse in the paint and a captivating personality in the WNBA. Reese now joins a Dream team eager to build momentum and redefine its identity for the upcoming season.
