You know how the rumor mill churns, especially during election seasons! Swae Lee recently dropped by The Breakfast Club, and he didn’t hold back when it came to clearing the air about his political stance and those viral comments. The Rae Sremmurd star made it crystal clear: he’s not playing for any particular political team.
Setting the Record Straight on Kamala Harris
Charlamagne Tha God dove right in, asking the question on everyone’s mind: “They said you hated Kamala Harris. Is that true?” Swae Lee explained that his perspective isn’t about hate, but rather a deep-seated lack of trust in politicians. “I don’t hate Kamala Harris but like I ain’t never announced my solidarity with no politician,” he stated.
He elaborated that people were quick to label him a supporter simply because he didn’t immediately denounce certain figures. However, Swae emphasized that he’s never worn a MAGA hat or officially endorsed the movement. His approach is to do his research and see what politicians will *actually* do for the people and how their actions will impact everyday life.
Turning Down a Major Campaign Offer
The conversation then shifted to the lucrative offers that often come with campaign seasons. Charlamagne asked the burning question: “But speaking of getting like I could have got paid by Trump and everything.” Swae Lee revealed that he was indeed offered a substantial sum – around ninety thousand dollars – to perform and publicly align himself with the Trump campaign.
However, he turned it down flat. “I turn that shit down. Like I ain’t standing with that shit either,” he said. The contract reportedly required him to wear the campaign’s signature hat and post his support on social media, conditions Swae was unwilling to meet. He even joked that if he had accepted, “You would have seen me actively at the White House with Trump performing.”
Motivations and Shifting Priorities
Swae Lee further explained that while he might agree with certain tax policies, other actions, such as changes to how Black history and literature are taught in schools, deeply troubled him. “That really fucked me up when he like taking the slave shit out the curriculum and all that,” he shared. His ultimate goal, he stated, is to see “America first” by taking care of its people rather than focusing on foreign interests.
In a significant move, the artist confirmed that his 2014 hit “Up Like Trump” has been officially removed from his setlist. When asked if he still performs it, Swae responded, “No I don’t even perform it now. It’s crazy. It’s like it’s too political.” He even mused that the song might have inadvertently inspired the idea of a presidential run, but since it no longer aligns with his mission to remain neutral and informed, it’s staying in the past.
