Hold onto your hats, fight fans! The much-hyped September showdown between boxing legends Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao is hitting some serious turbulence. According to Jas Mathur, the CEO of Manny Pacquiao Promotions, Mayweather has allegedly taken advance payments for a professional fight, only to later refer to it as an exhibition. This has led to accusations of a breach of contract and thrown the entire match into question.
Advance Pay and Shifting Terms
Mathur claims that Mayweather has signed multiple contracts for a professional bout at the Las Vegas Sphere and has already collected substantial advance payments. The controversy ignited when Mayweather publicly described the event as an exhibition, a stark contrast to the professional terms his team initially agreed upon. Mathur emphasized that these weren’t casual discussions, citing digital verification, including DocuSign proofs with device IDs and IP addresses, to back up the claims of signed agreements.
These professional commitments were reportedly signed across three separate dates between October and December 2025. “Floyd signed three separate agreements across different dates with different parties,” Mathur stated. “He received money for all of them, and he’s also taken an advance on the Pacquiao fight.” This suggests a clear understanding of the professional nature of the deal at the time of signing.
Conflicting Commitments and an Ultimatum
Adding another layer of complexity, Mathur pointed out Mayweather’s involvement in other potential exhibition bouts, like a planned June event against Mike Zambidis. This alleged pursuit of conflicting commitments, while having already secured advance funds for a professional fight against Pacquiao, has prompted the Pacquiao camp to issue an ultimatum. They are demanding written confirmation that Mayweather intends to honor the professional terms of the signed deal.
As of now, Mathur insists the fight is still on and no termination has occurred, stating, “As of right now, the fight is still on. There is no termination of any sort, and he has signed for a professional fight.” However, the situation remains uncertain. While Mayweather has reportedly assured some individuals that things are under control, the Pacquiao team is standing firm, asserting that their fighter deserves the legitimate professional match he was promised.
