Husband Charged in Florida Vice Mayor’s Murder

Tragic news has emerged from Coral Springs, Florida, where Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer Bowen was found dead in her home. Authorities have now charged her husband, Stephen Bowen, with first-degree murder and evidence tampering in connection with her death.

A Discovery of Foul Play

Concern was first raised when Metayer Bowen failed to attend a scheduled meeting. A subsequent welfare check at the couple’s home revealed signs of forced entry. Upon entering the residence, officers discovered her body in a second-floor bedroom. Investigators reported that she had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

The scene was deeply disturbing, with her body reportedly found wrapped in blankets and garbage bags. Authorities allege that the killing was premeditated, painting a grim picture of the events leading up to the discovery.

Confession and Cover-Up Attempt

According to an arrest report, Stephen Bowen had confided in his mother the day before the incident, mentioning a “panic attack” and his intention to speak with his wife. Hours later, he reportedly confessed to his uncle that he had shot Metayer Bowen three times with a shotgun and then slept downstairs.

When asked about his motive, investigators wrote that Bowen stated he “couldn’t take it anymore.” This confession to his uncle was crucial, as the subsequent 911 call allowed police to enter the home without a warrant. Further evidence recovered included shotgun shells and a modified pillow that appeared to have been used as a makeshift silencer.

Arrest and Ongoing Investigation

Police located Bowen in nearby Plantation, where he was reportedly seen attempting to hand off a gun bag and ammunition to another individual. He was arrested shortly thereafter and subsequently invoked his right to an attorney. Investigators also stated that Bowen attempted to alter his vehicle’s identifying information and sought help from an acquaintance, who reportedly told police he was unaware of any crime.

Bowen is currently being held without bond at the Broward Main Jail. The investigation into the death of Nancy Metayer Bowen, who was noted as Coral Springs’ first Black and Haitian American woman commissioner, is ongoing. Her passing has been met with widespread mourning, with leaders remembering her as a trailblazer in Florida politics.
