Takeoff Murder Case: DJ Pat Clark Trial Update

It’s been over three years since the tragic shooting that took the life of Takeoff, and the legal proceedings are now entering a crucial stage. Patrick “DJ Pat” Clark, the individual accused of the fatal shooting, is preparing for his upcoming trial. What’s particularly noteworthy is the legal team he’s assembled, including an attorney with ties to the influential J Prince.

The Road to Trial

Clark was arrested just weeks after the incident, which occurred outside a Houston bowling alley back in 2022. Prosecutors have laid out their case, alleging that Clark “unlawfully, intentionally and knowingly commit the felony offense of deadly conduct by knowingly discharging a firearm at and in the direction of” the beloved rapper. The case has been a slow burn, with both the prosecution and defense meticulously building their arguments.

Investigators have presented several pieces of evidence they believe tie Clark directly to the crime. A detective’s statement highlighted video footage showing the defendant firing a weapon while holding a wine bottle, and importantly, leaving that same bottle at the scene. This physical evidence, combined with fingerprints from the bottle, phone records, and vehicle information, reportedly played a key role in identifying Clark as the shooter.

Strengthening the Defense

While Clark has maintained his innocence, pleading not guilty, he’s currently out on a $1 million bond. As the trial date approaches in November, he’s significantly bolstering his defense. He’s enlisted the expertise of seasoned attorneys Kent Schaffer, Anthony Osso, and Dan Cogdell. Notably, Schaffer has a history of representing Rap-A-Lot Records founder J Prince in past matters, adding a significant layer of legal power to Clark’s corner.

Takeoff’s Lasting Legacy

Even as this legal battle unfolds, Takeoff’s presence continues to be felt in the entertainment world. Fans will have a chance to see him on screen again in the upcoming film “Takeover.” The movie, which delves into street racing culture, is slated for a May 8, 2026 release and features Takeoff alongside Quavo. It’s a poignant reminder of the talent lost and a way for fans to connect with his artistry one last time.
