The world got a closer look at Justin Timberlake’s 2024 DUI arrest this week with the release of police bodycam footage. While the incident itself has been widely reported, the newly surfaced video offers a more intimate, and at times, surprising glimpse into the moments following his apprehension in Long Island, New York.
A Joke About Race in Custody
In one notable clip shared online, Timberlake is seen reviewing paperwork related to his arrest. He pauses, looking at a document, and asks with a seemingly lighthearted tone, “White?” He quickly follows up with, “I’m just kidding, man.” This moment, captured during a stressful situation, has drawn attention and sparked discussion.
The footage also captures Timberlake’s surprise at the prospect of spending the entire night in custody. “All night?” he exclaims, adding, “Yo, you guys are wild, man.” His interactions with officers reveal his attempts to explain his presence in town for his world tour, stating, “I’m Justin Timberlake.”
The Arrest and Legal Aftermath
The traffic stop reportedly began after officers observed Timberlake’s vehicle swerving and failing to stop at a sign. The bodycam footage shows him appearing to struggle with clear speech and later admitting that the field sobriety tests were “really hard.” At one point, he told officers, “You’re treating me like a criminal.”
A friend of Timberlake’s was also seen attempting to leverage his celebrity status, referencing hit songs like “Bye, Bye, Bye” and “Sexy Back” in an effort to dissuade the officers from taking him into custody. Timberlake had reportedly tried to block the release of this bodycam footage.
Resolution and Plea Deal
Ultimately, the legal proceedings concluded in September 2024. Timberlake reached a plea deal with prosecutors, accepting a lesser charge. He was fined $500 and ordered to complete 25 hours of community service, bringing a resolution to the DUI incident.
