Fashion Scholarship Fund Gala: Stars Shine Bright

The fashion world gathered in full force at The Glasshouse in New York City for the Fashion Scholarship Fund’s (FSF) 89th annual gala, FSF LIVE. This star-studded event celebrated the Class of 2026 FSF Scholars and Virgil Abloh “Post-Modern” Scholars, recognizing 160 students from 75 institutions poised to shape the future of fashion. Over $1.9 million in scholarships were awarded, underscoring the FSF’s commitment to nurturing the next generation.

Honoring Industry Icons and Emerging Talent

Hosted by the insightful Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, the evening paid tribute to influential figures including stylist Law Roach, singer Ciara and her husband Russell Wilson, and PVH CEO Stefan Larsson. Travis Scott was also recognized for his significant support through the Cactus Jack Foundation. The event highlighted not only the achievements of established professionals but also the immense potential of the scholarship recipients.

Ciara, alongside Russell Wilson and their children Future and Sienna, captivated attendees in a striking Willy Chavarria ensemble. The structured tailoring of her outfit perfectly embodied the designer’s signature aesthetic. The family took the stage to honor Ciara and Wilson, celebrating their impact on fashion, philanthropy, and culture.

Mentorship and Authenticity

Designer Jerry Lorenzo shared poignant words while honoring his mentor, PVH CEO Stefan Larsson. Lorenzo emphasized the enduring importance of authenticity: “Keep everything honest and authentic to who you are.” This advice, he noted, continues to guide him and is now a principle he passes on to aspiring designers navigating the complex fashion landscape.

Christian Siriano spoke passionately about the significance of mentorship, stating, “Without the younger generation, we kind of have nothing.” He reiterated his commitment to designing for all women, regardless of shape, size, or background, aiming to make everyone feel “fabulous.”

Encouraging the Next Wave

Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, honored for her contributions and support of emerging talent, offered words of encouragement to aspiring creatives. “You might sometimes feel like you don’t fit in, but the people who don’t fit in are the people fashion needs the most,” she advised, urging them to embrace their uniqueness and drive innovation within the industry.

June Ambrose highlighted the crucial role of discovery and staying connected with new talent. “I’m on the hunt!” she exclaimed, praising the FSF for identifying and cultivating future industry leaders. The organization serves as a vital pipeline for the next generation of fashion professionals.

Recognizing Future Leaders

The evening also featured the FSF Chairman’s Award, with finalists presenting innovative cross-industry collaboration concepts. Kuan Jackson was awarded the prestigious $25,000 prize, presented by Amanda Smith and Raul Lopez, recognizing his exceptional vision.

Leading up to the gala, scholars engaged in immersive industry experiences, including panels at PVH’s Calvin Klein headquarters, discussions with WWD, and programming at the LVMH Tower. These opportunities provided invaluable access to industry leaders and insights into the business of fashion.
