Remember that headline-grabbing lawsuit filed by Cam’ron against J. Cole over the track “Ready 24”? Well, the two hip-hop heavyweights have finally sat down to clear the air, and it turns out the whole thing was a rather unconventional way to get attention.
Clearing the Air on ‘Ready 24’
The drama began when Cam’ron sued J. Cole over the feature verse he recorded back in 2022, which later appeared on Cole’s “Might Delete Later” EP in April 2024. While Cole’s legal team argued his appearance was voluntary, Cam’s camp denied this. However, in a recent interview on Cam’ron’s “Talk With Flee” podcast, the situation was de-escalated.
J. Cole admitted he was initially hurt and disappointed by the lawsuit, especially given his respect for Cam’ron. “When the lawsuit came out, I was like, ‘Bro, you could have hit me,’” Cole shared. He felt that direct communication would have been preferable to legal action, especially since he believed Cam could have simply reached out to him directly.
A Strategy for Attention?
Cam’ron revealed his true intentions behind filing the lawsuit. He explained that it “wasn’t really gonna go nowhere” and that he filed it primarily “to get Cole’s attention.” He felt he wasn’t getting the response he expected regarding the verse, especially after fulfilling a previous request from Cole.
Cole, putting himself in Cam’ron’s shoes, understood the feeling of being ignored. “The n–a felt like he was getting the run around,” Cole acknowledged. While his initial ego reaction was frustration, he quickly recognized Cam’s perspective, highlighting the importance of keeping one’s word in their professional dealings.
Broader Reflections
The conversation also touched upon J. Cole’s thoughts on the 2024 Drake and Kendrick Lamar battle. He famously bowed out of the conflict, comparing the polarized fan reactions to modern-day politics. “The world became like politics, you either Democrat or Republican. You either Kendrick, or you Drake… I was disgusted both ways, damn near,” he stated.
