Shaun Milli: Independence, TikTok, and ‘Lover’s Lounge’ Success

In the ever-evolving music industry, staying true to your vision is key. South Carolina singer Shaun Milli is a prime example of an artist building success with intention, and he recently shared his journey on The Baller Alert Show. From his roots in Edgefield to topping the Billboard charts, Milli is charting his own course.

From Small Town to TikTok Stardom

Hailing from a small town of just 4,000 people, Shaun Milli explained how stepping outside his comfort zone helped shape his artistic vision. When the pandemic hit in 2020, he didn’t pause; instead, he doubled down on his music. TikTok became a crucial platform for him, playing a major role in building his fanbase organically.

This consistent online engagement translated into real-world momentum. His project ‘Lover’s Lounge,’ released on February 22nd, quickly climbed the charts, landing in the Billboard Top 10. The project, which features a smooth, 90s R&B vibe centered on love and relationships, showcases his melodic direction, with his favorite track being ‘Tomorrow’.

The Power of Independence

A significant part of Milli’s strategy is his decision to remain independent. He confirmed he’s not signed to a major label, only working with a distribution company. For Shaun Milli, the value of ownership and long-term financial gain outweighs the allure of quick upfront cash from a major deal.

While this means he self-funds his music videos and production, he sees it as a worthwhile trade-off. This business-savvy mindset is clearly paying off. He noted that his success has been steadily growing since around 2022, with his early TikTok efforts now translating into tangible revenue and a rapidly expanding fanbase, affectionately known as the ‘Milli Mob’.

Staying Grounded

Despite his rising success, Milli remains grounded. He shared a relatable pet peeve – people asking for his food after saying they weren’t hungry – adding a touch of personality that reminds viewers he’s still the same artist who started from the bottom. He also explained the evolution of his name: ‘Keshan’ shortened to ‘Shaun,’ with ‘Milli’ stemming from ‘Million’ thanks to his team’s input.

Shaun Milli is proving to be a key figure in the new wave of R&B artists who understand the importance of both musical artistry and shrewd business acumen.
