Get ready to hear more from the legendary Tina Turner! Even after her passing in 2023, the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll’s incredible legacy continues to expand. Swedish company Pophouse Entertainment has just acquired the rights to Tina Turner’s name, image, and likeness, along with the majority of her vast music catalog. This exciting move ensures her iconic presence will continue to captivate audiences for generations to come.
A New Chapter for Tina’s Music
This isn’t the first time Tina’s music catalog has seen a significant transaction; she previously sold rights to BMG in 2021 for a cool $50 million. Now, Pophouse Entertainment, known for its innovative immersive experiences and digital avatars, is stepping in. They’ve expressed a strong desire to leverage Tina’s powerful visual presence and electrifying stage energy in new projects.
Pophouse CEO Jessica Koravos shared their vision with the Associated Press, stating, “What we want to do is really help to consolidate her legacy. I think that Tina Turner is up there, or is going to be up there, with the Elvises and the Marilyn Monroes of the world.” This ambition highlights the monumental impact Tina had on music and popular culture.
Honoring an Unforgettable Icon
Known as the “Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll,” Tina Turner mesmerized the world with her powerhouse vocals and unforgettable stage presence. Hits like “What’s Love Got To Do With It,” “Proud Mary,” and “The Best” are just a taste of her incredible musical journey. Her career was decorated with 12 Grammy Awards, a Lifetime Achievement Award, and two Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductions – once with Ike & Tina and again as a solo artist.
Discussions between BMG and Pophouse began shortly after Turner’s passing. While BMG retains a portion of the catalog, Turner’s estate was kept informed and involved in the conversations, ensuring her legacy is handled with the utmost respect. Alistair Norbury of BMG UK emphasized their commitment: “Our responsibility, alongside Pophouse and the Estate, is to ensure her work continues to resonate with audiences around the world, while remaining true to the strength, independence and originality that defined her career.”
A Trend in Legacy Management
This move by Pophouse Entertainment echoes a similar trend in the industry. Just recently, the estate of music legend Quincy Jones also sold his name, image, and likeness rights to investment firm HarbourView. It seems that preserving and actively managing the legacies of music titans is becoming increasingly important in the digital age.
