Feds Target Ex-Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick’s Bank Account

Federal authorities are making a move to seize over $13,000 from a business account that they claim has ties to former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick. This action comes after a restitution agreement was made, adding another layer to the ongoing saga surrounding the disgraced politician.

The Account in Question

Court documents filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan reveal that federal agents are targeting an account at Comerica Bank. This account, holding $13,167, is listed under the name Pathfinder Consulting LLC, identified as a nominee for Kwame Kilpatrick. The funds are currently being held pending further court orders.

This development follows a February 2026 agreement where Kilpatrick committed to paying $823,649.09 in restitution to the city of Detroit, on top of an existing $155,000 debt. The agreement also stipulated that his pension benefits and other income would be subject to garnishment.

Kilpatrick’s Defense and Wife’s Involvement

Kwame Kilpatrick, who received clemency from President Trump in January 2021, has pushed back against the federal action. He asserts that the targeted account is actually linked to his wife, LaTicia, claiming she is the resident agent for Pathfinder Consulting LLC. He expressed his dismay, calling the claims “deeply disturbing” and criticizing the U.S. Attorney’s Office for involving his wife.

“This Comerica business account, along with my own personal account have been points of open and honest discussions with federal authorities since December,” Kilpatrick stated. “I do not have, nor have I ever had, an account at Comerica Bank. The targeting of her business and its associated properties is unjustified, selective and deeply concerning.”

A Pattern of Transparency, According to Kilpatrick

Kilpatrick maintains that he has been transparent with federal authorities regarding his finances since December 2025, when he claims both his personal accounts and his wife’s business account were frozen. He stated that these assets were only unfrozen after the restitution agreement was finalized. The former mayor feels the current targeting of the Pathfinder account goes beyond restitution.

He further elaborated, “Let me be clear: this action has nothing to do with restitution, nor with any attempt to conceal assets. In fact, in my effort to be transparent and cooperative, I provided full and accurate financial disclosures. As well as living a model life, and working diligently to be a blessing to my family and community since returning from prison.”

Agreements have been completely disregarded, and the pattern of conduct raises serious concerns about fairness, intent, and accountability. — Kwame Kilpatrick

Kilpatrick also expressed frustration over what he perceives as the leaking of incomplete and misleading information to the press, even after engaging in good-faith discussions with the U.S. Attorney’s office. He believes this pattern raises significant questions about fairness and accountability in the legal process.
