North West is giving fans another glimpse into her musical endeavors, sharing a snippet of an upcoming song that prominently features a sample from her father Kanye West’s iconic track, “Coldest Winter.” The preview was shared on her Instagram Story earlier Tuesday morning.
Fans Praise North’s Musical Talent
The snippet quickly gained attention on social media, with fans praising North West’s burgeoning talent. “North West is 11 sampling Kanye beats and the talent is genuinely there. The music industry better get ready,” one user wrote on X (formerly Twitter). Another commented on her inherited skills, adding, “She’s inherited some of the craziest stems, drum kits, sample cuts etc etc.”
This sampling choice highlights North West’s connection to her father’s musical legacy, particularly the deeply personal themes of “Coldest Winter.” The song, released in 2008 on Kanye West’s album “808s & Heartbreak,” interpolates Tears for Fears’ “Memories Fade” and reflects on the death of his mother, Donda West.
Showcasing Musical Versatility
This is not the first time North West has showcased her musical talents. In 2024, she performed “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King” during “The Lion King” 30th Anniversary – A Live-to-Film Concert Event. She also made her recording debut on Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign’s single “Talking / Once Again,” which peaked at number 30 on the Billboard Hot 100. Last year, she sang in Japanese on FKA twigs’ song, “Childlike Things.”
Meanwhile, Kanye West is reportedly preparing for the release of his next studio album, “Bully.” Despite previous delays, the project is slated for release on March 27th. He has also announced upcoming live performances, including his first concert in Los Angeles since 2021, which has drawn some criticism from local Jewish community activists regarding the venue choice. Kanye previously issued a full-page apology in the Wall Street Journal for his past antisemitic remarks.
