Saks & Neiman Marcus Announce Major Store Closures

Get ready for a major shift in the luxury retail landscape. Saks Global is making some tough decisions, announcing a significant number of store closures for both Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus. This move comes as the company works to navigate its financial situation following a major acquisition.

A Sweeping Downsize for High-End Retail

In a significant shake-up, Saks Global is set to close eight Saks Fifth Avenue locations and one Neiman Marcus store in Boston. This isn’t entirely unexpected, as the company took on a hefty $2.2 billion in debt when it acquired Neiman Marcus in 2024, ultimately leading to a bankruptcy filing in January 2026.

The strategy behind these closures is to ‘refine the Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus store footprint to focus on profitable locations with the highest growth potential.’ Essentially, any branch where the revenue doesn’t justify the overhead is on the chopping block.

Beyond the Storefronts: Styling Suites and Digital Consolidation

The cuts extend beyond the main retail floors. Most of the exclusive ‘Fifth Avenue Club’ personal styling suites, private luxury spaces located in high-end resorts, are also being closed. Out of nearly 20 locations, only three will remain operational. These exclusive outposts, popular in vacation destinations, ceased public access on February 14th.

Even the digital presence is being streamlined. The home decor brand Horchow will lose its standalone website on February 19th, with its inventory moving to the Neiman Marcus online catalog. This consolidation aims to simplify operations and focus resources.

Which Locations Are Affected?

For shoppers in cities like New Orleans, Phoenix, and Philadelphia, these closures mean the end of local access to these iconic luxury brands. However, it’s worth noting that the Bergdorf Goodman stores will remain open as usual. The affected Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus stores are expected to stay open until the end of April, giving customers a final chance to visit.

Saks Global is framing these changes as ‘strategic actions’ designed for long-term business health. By concentrating on their most profitable markets and locations, the company hopes to overcome its substantial debt. This move signals a trend towards a more exclusive and limited luxury retail experience for consumers.
