Roc Nation’s Mission: Find Kidney Donor for Candice Davis

In any close-knit community, there are individuals who act as the glue, holding everything together with their quiet strength and dedication. For Roc Nation, Jay-Z’s renowned media and entertainment company, that person is Candice Davis. For over two decades, Candice has been the steady force behind the scenes, nurturing her colleagues and contributing to the company’s success in ways that are deeply felt, even if not always visible.

A Call for a Life-Saving Gift

Now, the organization she has dedicated so much of her life to is rallying the world to support her in her most critical time. Roc Nation has launched a deeply personal initiative focused on organ donation, with the urgent goal of finding Candice the one thing she needs most: a life-saving kidney transplant. Her story is a poignant reminder of the challenges many Black families face when dealing with chronic illness while juggling life’s other immense pressures.

Hailing from Brooklyn, Candice entered the vibrant music and entertainment scene in 2002 at Baseline Studios, a place steeped in hip-hop history. Her journey continued through the iconic 40/40 Club before she found her permanent home at Roc Nation, quickly becoming an indispensable part of the company’s daily operations.

A Decades-Long Health Battle

But behind her professional excellence lies a health battle that has spanned nearly thirty years. Candice was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at just 17, embarking on a long medical journey that has involved over 25 surgeries. The situation took a critical turn in 2022 when she entered end-stage renal failure.

Tragically, in 2023, she faced further heartbreak when her husband and primary caregiver passed away suddenly from a heart attack, leaving Candice and her daughter to navigate an already overwhelming reality. Despite having an AB-positive blood type, which typically broadens the donor pool, Candice’s high antibody levels make finding a compatible match incredibly rare.

A Daughter’s Hope and a Community’s Call

Her 21-year-old daughter bravely stepped forward as a potential donor, but unfortunately, she was not approved due to being pre-diabetic. For now, Candice dedicates three days a week to dialysis, holding onto hope for the match that could restore her health and her life.

Roc Nation’s campaign is far more than just a corporate effort; it’s a heartfelt community call to action. It serves as a powerful reminder of the urgent need for better care, attention, and advocacy for Black women navigating healthcare systems that too often overlook their specific needs. It’s an open invitation for anyone who can help to step forward and make a life-changing difference.
