D’Angelo’s Legacy Lives On: New Fund Fights Pancreatic Cancer

It’s with a heavy heart that we share news of a beautiful initiative born from loss. The estate of the legendary soul artist D’Angelo has established the D’Angelo Pancreatic Cancer Fund, a global effort to honor his memory and combat a disease that tragically took him too soon.

D’Angelo, a true visionary whose music defined a generation, passed away on October 14, 2025, at the age of 51. His private battle with pancreatic cancer has now inspired a powerful movement aimed at making a difference for others facing this devastating illness.

A Fund with a Focused Mission

This new fund isn’t just a tribute; it’s a strategic philanthropic initiative. In partnership with the Black Boy Joy Foundation (BBJF) and the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, the fund is dedicated to advancing critical areas like research, early detection studies, and awareness campaigns.

What makes this fund particularly impactful is its focus on Black men and boys. Pancreatic cancer has a grim survival rate of just 13%, and this initiative aims to address the disproportionate impact this disease has on Black communities, tackling systemic inequities that often delay diagnosis and treatment.

Voices of Hope and Determination

The estate shared a poignant statement, highlighting D’Angelo’s profound influence beyond music. “As a visionary artist, cultural pioneer, and devoted father, D’Angelo’s influence transcended music and defined a generation,” they stated. This fund is a formal step to honor his life and his courageous fight.

Leading the charge are D’Angelo’s daughter, Imani Archer, his brother, Luther Archer, and BBJF founder Jean-Claude Kali. Kali emphasized the urgency, noting, “Black men are disproportionately affected, facing higher incidence and mortality rates, compounded by systemic inequities that delay diagnosis and limit access to treatment.”

By raising awareness and funding research, we can begin to change this reality. — Jean-Claude Kali, BBJF Founder

Imani Archer echoed this sentiment, sharing her hope: “Even in this dark time, we hold on to hope: by sharing his story and fighting back, we can save other families from experiencing this same loss. My father’s passing will not be in vain, and through this work, his light will continue to guide and uplift others.”

A Lasting Musical and Humanitarian Legacy

D’Angelo’s family fondly remembered him as the “shining star” of their family. His musical legacy continues to resonate powerfully, with streams reportedly surging nearly 800% since his passing. Now, his legacy expands to include a vital humanitarian mission.
