Big news from the world of pop culture commentary: Quentin Latham, widely known as Funky Dineva, has revealed a Stage 1 prostate cancer diagnosis. He’s bravely sharing his journey, emphasizing a crucial message for everyone: ‘Early detection is key.’
A Personal Health Update
On Tuesday, November 25th, Funky Dineva took to Instagram to share a personal video update with his followers. He explained that he had just returned from a visit to the urologist and, with the intention of educating rather than seeking sympathy, shared that he has Stage 1 prostate cancer. He revealed that out of twelve biopsies, two came back cancerous and one was inconclusive.
Dineva mentioned that his Gleason score was extremely low, indicating that the cancer was caught in its very earliest stages. His doctor plans to conduct genetic testing on the biopsies to determine if the cancer is slow-growing or fast-growing, which will help inform treatment options.
Choosing a Path Forward: Surgery
During his consultation, Dineva learned about potential treatment options, including radiation, experimental drugs, and robotic surgery. Without waiting for further test results, he made a decisive choice. He opted for robotic surgery to have the cancerous cells removed.
He has an upcoming appointment on December 8th with the ‘robot doctor’ to schedule the procedure. While acknowledging he’ll read the informational materials provided, Dineva’s gut feeling is to ‘cut it out’ and avoid radiation or other therapies. He expressed that he’s feeling a bit down but plans to take a nap and will be okay.
A Message of Awareness
In his Instagram caption, Dineva reiterated the importance of early detection and urged men to stay on top of their bloodwork and medical exams. He asked his followers not to call him, as he needed time to process the news and take a nap.
Later that evening, Dineva had planned to host his ‘Funky Dineva Live’ YouTube show with K. Michelle. However, shortly after promoting the episode, he announced its cancellation. He explained that after receiving his diagnosis, he didn’t have the emotional capacity to host the show, stating he was feeling depressed but also fine, and giving himself permission to go through the process.
