A disturbing incident involving students from Morehouse College and Clark Atlanta University (CAU) has led to an arrest. A viral video captured a violent assault on a CAU student, sparking outrage and strong condemnations from both institutions.
The Violent Encounter
The incident reportedly began after Clark Atlanta University student Kayla Bryant boarded a campus shuttle. According to Bryant’s account, shared in a TikTok video, a male Morehouse student and his girlfriend entered the shuttle, and the male student stepped on her foot as she exited. When Bryant asked for an apology, the girlfriend allegedly confronted her, leading to a physical altercation where the male student then began strangling Bryant.
Bryant described being lifted off the ground and choked, with the male student allegedly threatening to kill her. She reported being slammed against walls while trying to escape. The encounter, which allegedly occurred at an off-campus housing complex, left Bryant with a bruised face and knee.
Arrest and Official Condemnations
Following the circulation of the video, authorities identified the Morehouse student as Matthew Dave Gonzales Forestine, 21. He has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault, terroristic threats, and acts. The Atlanta Police Department is actively searching for both individuals involved.
Both Morehouse College President Dr. F. DuBois Bowman and CAU President Dr. George T. French have issued strong statements condemning the violence. Dr. Bowman emphasized that “violence and threats of violence have no place in the Morehouse community, particularly violence against women.” Dr. French echoed these sentiments, calling such acts “intolerable, unacceptable, and has no place on our campuses.”

Both universities are cooperating with law enforcement and are committed to a thorough investigation. Clark Atlanta University has confirmed they are working closely with Bryant, her family, and the authorities, prioritizing her safety and well-being.
