Ever wonder what happened with that potential Drake and Blueface collaboration? Blueface recently sat down with VladTV to share his perspective on why the highly anticipated track never saw the light of day. He believes it wasn’t about personal issues between the artists, but rather a mix of circumstances and business dynamics.
Circumstances, Not Conflict
Blueface suggested that external factors might have played a role. He speculated that perhaps the people around him or Drake weren’t “vibing,” or that Drake might have been more interested in signing him as an artist. “Once he seen that I signed and all this stuff…” Blueface mused, implying that his own career moves might have shifted the dynamic.
He pointed to the massive success of the “Thotiana” remix, featuring Cardi B and YG, as a potential turning point. “She went crazy,” Blueface said of Cardi B’s contribution, acknowledging that the feature honestly changed his life. This surge in his career, following the remix’s success, might have inadvertently turned him into ‘competition’ rather than a collaborator in Drake’s eyes.
A Glimpse of What Could Have Been
Back in 2018, during his rise to fame, Blueface shared screenshots of DMs from Drake. The Toronto rapper had praised Blueface’s song “Dead Locs,” calling him the “next big thing” and mentioning a beat from Boi1da that he felt would “slap so hard” for them. Despite these promising messages, the collaboration never materialized over the years.
This VladTV interview comes shortly after Blueface’s release from prison. Since his return, he’s been making headlines for various reasons, including his public statements about Chrisean Rock and Offset, and his new relationship with Hazel-E.
What do you think about Blueface’s explanation? Do you think the Drake collaboration would have been a hit? Let us know in the comments!
