Hold onto your hats, hip-hop fans! Just when the hype around Drake’s potential next album, ‘ICEMAN,’ was building, a full, high-quality version of an unreleased Drake and Playboi Carti collaboration has hit the internet. This leak, reportedly titled ‘Slide In’ or ‘K9,’ is sending waves through the music community.
From Snippet to Full Track: The “Slide In” Journey
Remember that snippet that surfaced earlier this month, played by Adin Ross on his livestream? Well, that was just the appetizer. Now, the full track is circulating, and it’s giving fans exactly what they’ve been asking for since their last official collab, ‘Pain 1993,’ dropped back in 2020.
The production on ‘Slide In (K9)’ is a fascinating blend. It kicks off with a vocal sample flip of Luther Vandross’s ‘A House Is Not A Home’ – a sample you might also recognize from Kanye West’s ‘Slow Jamz.’ Drake delivers his signature wavy vocals over drill-adjacent drums and airy synth pads.
A Dynamic Two-Part Structure
But this track isn’t a one-trick pony. Around the 1:30 mark, the beat undergoes a dramatic switch-up. Playboi Carti, also known as ‘King Vamp,’ takes over with a darker, faster, and more sinister beat for the remaining three minutes, leaving Drake out of this second section.
This two-part structure is reminiscent of some of Drake’s previous collaborations, like ‘Life Is Good’ with Future, and even touches on the dynamic found in Carti’s own ‘Shoota’ featuring Lil Uzi Vert. It definitely keeps the listener engaged!
Will It Make the Album? Speculation Abounds
The big question on everyone’s mind is: will this leak appear on Drake’s upcoming album, ‘ICEMAN’? Or will Playboi Carti fans have to wait even longer for a new official team-up? Some fans have speculated that Drake’s collaborations with Carti might have been impacted by Kendrick Lamar’s features on Carti’s album ‘MUSIC,’ but most are chalking it up to coincidence.
Whatever the case, this leak is a tantalizing taste of what could be. We’re hoping to get some official confirmation soon, but in the meantime, enjoy this unexpected drop!
