LiAngelo Ball Defends Low Tipping

Get ready for some internet debate! LiAngelo Ball, often known as Gelo, has stirred up a conversation about tipping culture after revealing his rather unconventional approach. It turns out, the standard 20% gratuity rule isn’t exactly his go-to, no matter how hefty the bill.

Gelo’s Tipping Philosophy

During a recent episode of the “Ball in the Family Podcast,” Gelo didn’t hold back. He explained that even for a $400 dinner, he’s comfortable tipping just $10 or $20, unless the service was truly exceptional. “That’s how I rock,” he stated, emphasizing that the quality of service, not the total cost of the meal, dictates his tip amount.

He did admit that he might occasionally throw down a larger tip, perhaps around $100, if he’s trying to impress someone or if the waiter was outstanding. However, he stressed that this is the exception, not the rule. For Gelo, the idea of a universal 20% tipping standard just doesn’t make sense.

Extending the Philosophy to Delivery Apps

Gelo’s perspective even extends to food delivery services like Uber Eats. He questioned why someone should tip 20% on a $250 order when the effort involved in dropping off a $20 order is essentially the same. This is where his brother, Lonzo Ball, chimed in with a different viewpoint.

Lonzo shared that he generally sticks to the 20% rule, especially when the service is good and gratuity isn’t already included. He mentioned that he and his girlfriend often spend between $600 to $800 on a night out, and he feels 20% is reasonable if the server contributed to making the evening special.

This conversation comes at a time when tipping in America is a hot topic, particularly for those working in the service industry. LiAngelo’s candid comments have definitely added fuel to the fire, sparking discussions online about fairness, service quality, and expected gratuity.

What’s your take on LiAngelo Ball’s tipping philosophy? Do you think the 20% rule is out of control, or is it a fair standard? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
