In a move that sent ripples through the hip-hop community, Abdul Robinson Sr., the father of Jacksonville rapper Ksoo, has received his sentence. His decision to testify against his own son in a 2020 murder case has concluded with a specific outcome for his cooperation.
A Father’s Testimony, A Sentence Served
Robinson Sr. agreed to testify against Ksoo, identifying him as the shooter in the murder of Charles “Lil Buck” McCormick Jr. This cooperation significantly impacted the proceedings. As a result of his testimony and guilty plea for aiding in the escape of nephew Leroy Whitaker and Dominique “Butta” Barner, the 54-year-old was sentenced to time served – specifically 1,898 days.
Judge Tatiana Salvador acknowledged the gravity of Robinson Sr.’s cooperation, stating that without it, he would have faced a life sentence. She highlighted how his testimony helped halt harmful activities that had been a ‘scourge on our community.’ Prior to testifying, Robinson Sr. was facing a potential 60-year prison term, which was reduced to a maximum of 20 years after he took the stand.
Apologies and Continued Oversight
Before the judge’s decision, Robinson Sr. addressed the courtroom, offering his deepest apologies to the victim’s family. He expressed empathy, stating, ‘I understand what it is to lose a child because I lost one.’ While his cooperation led to time served, he is not entirely free. He must complete two years of community control with electronic monitoring, followed by three years of probation with special conditions.
Ksoo and Brother’s Sentences
The circumstances surrounding McCormick Jr.’s death in 2020, which reportedly escalated after McCormick Jr. dropped a diss track about Robinson Sr.’s late stepson, Willie Addison, led to severe consequences. Ksoo, who was reportedly part of the ATK gang, received a life sentence for his involvement in the murder. Ksoo’s brother, however, received a more lenient sentence of 12 years in prison as part of a plea deal.
