The online community is in mourning following the tragic death of 21-year-old TikTok star Girlalala, whose real name was Maurice Harrison. Harrison, a beloved influencer known for her vibrant personality, was found shot and later pronounced dead on November 14th. Authorities have arrested her boyfriend in connection with the murder.
A Tragic Discovery in Lauderdale Lakes
The Broward Sheriff’s Office responded to a medical call around 7 p.m. on Friday, November 14th, near a residence on Northwest 37th Street in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida. Upon arrival, deputies discovered Harrison unresponsive in the passenger seat of a vehicle, suffering from gunshot wounds. Paramedics transported Harrison to Broward Health Medical Center, where she was tragically pronounced dead.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office Homicide and Crime Scene units are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding this devastating incident. The vehicle was located near a residence, and investigators have since taken a suspect into custody.
Boyfriend Arrested and Charged
The suspect apprehended at the scene has been identified as Shanoyd Whyte Jr., who was reportedly in a relationship with Harrison for several years. According to the press release, investigators believe a verbal argument between Whyte Jr. and Harrison escalated into a physical altercation inside Whyte Jr.’s vehicle. During the confrontation, Harrison was shot while still seated in the car. Whyte Jr. has been transported to BSO’s Main Jail and faces a charge of first-degree murder with a firearm.
Tributes Pour In for Girlalala
Harrison, who identified as a transgender woman, was a talented hairstylist from Pompano Beach, Florida. She had amassed a significant following, with over 235,000 followers on TikTok (though her page now appears deactivated) and more than 41,000 on Instagram. Friends and fans have flooded her remaining social media accounts with messages of love and condolences.
Close friends shared heartfelt tributes, expressing disbelief and sorrow. One wrote, “I will forever miss you. You didn’t deserve that & idc what anyone says IT WASN’T SELF DEFENSE!!!” Another added, “Rest in beauty, sista.”
JT and the Community Mourn
Rapper JT of the City Girls also paid tribute to Harrison, sharing a video of the influencer joining her on stage. “Rest, beautiful girlala! We love you & Heaven will never be boring now that you are there, your boldness, energy, humor & beauty will be missed!” JT wrote, expressing her gratitude for Harrison’s support and apologizing for the tragedy. She also used the moment to advocate for the protection of transgender women, urging people not to trivialize violence against them.
A GoFundMe campaign has been established to help cover funeral arrangements. As of November 19th, the campaign has raised over $28,700, with significant contributions from JT. Harrison’s family expressed their deep appreciation for the outpouring of support during this difficult time.
